Two arrested after shots fired in rural Jasper County
COLFAX, Iowa — Two Iowa men were arrested after a verbal altercation ended with shots fired. Authorities from the Jasper County Sheriff's Office, Colfax Police Department and Iowa State Patrol all responded to a report of shots fired on June 5. Norm Hopkins, 69, of Colfax, told authorities he had fired shots with a handgun at a vehicle operated by Ryan Doty, 42, of Altoona.

(Polk County, IA) -- A crash on I-80/35 this (Tuesday) afternoon caused a major traffic jam in the eastbound lanes. A crash near the 2nd Avenue exit on I-80 forced the closure of two lanes. Traffic was backed up all the way to 100th Street in Urbandale. The crash caused a 60-to-90 minute delay.

Pappajohns’ Des Moines home sold for $1.37 million
A limited liability company has acquired the former Des Moines home of philanthropists John and Mary Pappajohn, Polk County real estate records show. 24 Foster LLC paid the John Pappajohn Revocable Trust $1.37 million for the residential property at 24 Foster Drive (photo at right) in Des Moines. The two-story, single-family house, built in 1923, includes 4,377 square feet of living space. The property, which includes 1.36 acres, is valued at $1.15 million. John Pappajohn, a venture capitalist, died in April of 2023 at the age of 94. Mary Pappajohn was 88 when she died in March 2022. The couple donated millions of dollars to projects at the University of Iowa, Des Moines and elsewhere. Their most visual donation is the John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park in Des Moines’ downtown. The real estate transaction involving the couple’s former home was recorded June 3.
Arrest Made in Tuesday Stabbing
(Des Moines, IA) -- An arrest has been made in Des Moines' sixth homicide of the year. Police say a 16 year old male Des Moines resident has been charged. Progress Pride flags have been stolen from yards in Des Moines over the past two weeks. The flags are from Project Rainbow of Iowa, which distributes Progress Pride flags to people in Polk County and the surrounding area, so they can fly them at their homes to show support for the LGBTQ community during Pride Month.
