Letter to the Editor: Beeville, we need you
The school bond election is long overdue for our community. I know it will cost more taxes for most of us taxpayers. However, we will be investing in the future of our students, supporting our teachers, and helping our community prosper. The average homestead in the Beeville ISD district is $159,611 per the Bee County Appraisal District. A taxpayer with a homestead exemption will pay $7.63 per month or $91.50 more per year after the bond. If a taxpayer has an Over 65 homestead exemption there is no tax increase because there is a tax ceiling for the taxpayer.
Dollar General damaged by April 22 fire
The Dollar General in Goliad was damaged by an early morning fire on April 23. Volunteer fire departments from Goliad, Ander-Weser, Berclair, Fannin, and Schroeder responded to the fire, which occurred at 1:49 a.m. According to Goliad County Fire Marshal Kevin Story, the fire was extinguished in under 10 minutes.
BOND: BISD requests over $62 million on May 4 ballot
Beeville Independent School District is asking Beeville voters for $62,380,000 for new construction and infrastructure upgrades on the May 4 election ballot. Nearly 88% ($54,688,326) of the proposed bond is allotted for the construction of a new elementary school that will consolidate RA Hall and FMC Elementary Schools. FMC, built in 1957, is 67 years old, and its counterpart, RA Hall, was built 10 years later in 1967.
