PHOTOS: Memorial Day ceremonies at Rosebud Cemetery in Glenwood Springs
The Memorial Day Riders (MDR) celebrated their 10th anniversary on Monday, honoring those who have fought and died in service to the nation. The event, hosted by the American Legion Post 78 from Rifle, Colorado, took place at Rosebud Cemetery. Attendees included Sen. Perry Will, who is currently running for District 2 Garfield County Commissioner; Caleb Waller, who is running for Colorado House District 57; and members of BSA Troop 225.
2 arrested after illegal fireworks cause wildland fire, meth found in home
Garfield County Sheriff's Office says one person was taken into custody after illegal fireworks caused a brush fire, leading to officers executing a search warrant and finding meth. The sheriff's office says, on Friday around noon, deputies and the Grand Valley Fire Protection District responded to a brush fire in the area of Lodgepole Circle in Battlement Mesa.Approximately one acre of brush and grass were on fire, which led to fences destroyed and several houses being in danger. Deputies and fire crews were able to put the fire out swiftly. After the fire was extinguished, deputies investigated the incident and realized the fire was ignited by illegal fireworks, which led to a search warrant being executed on the home. Deputies searched the home and discovered illegal fireworks and 16.7 grams of methamphetamine. The sheriff's office says two people were taken into custody on multiple charges, which includes fourth-degree arson and possession of a schedule II controlled substance.

Coal Ridge High School moved the graduation ceremony for the class of 2024 inside due to the inclement weather. This year’s graduating class earned over 1,400 credits from Colorado Mountain College and 50 Certificates of Proficiency in everything from Auto Service Technician in Engine Repair to Phlebotomy.

It has since been removed, but there used to be a dog statue on top of the hookers building … Or so I thought. I could see it from my office window and sometimes on my way to downtown from the right view point. It looked very realistic almost like taxidermy but I always thought “surely not?”. One day I just had to find out for sure so I went to hookers and spoke with the owner who confirmed it was indeed a taxidermy dog. Apparently it came with the building or something like that I forget exactly. Anyway I wrote this haiku in honor of the taxidermy dog that used to be on the roof of hookers.
River Bridge receives over $23,000 donation from Subaru dealer in Glenwood Springs
Phil Long Glenwood Springs Subaru and Subaru of America support local child sexual assault victims. River Bridge Regional Center received a check for $23,500 on Wednesday as part of the 2023 Subaru Share the Love Event. This was the third year in a row the nonprofit was selected for their impact and support provided to the growing number of child sexual assault victims in Pitkin, Garfield, Eagle, and Rio Blanco counties.
Glenwood Springs High sends off Class of 2024
Glenwood Springs High School sent 233 graduates onto the next chapters of their lives on Saturday at Stubler Memorial Field. The class features more than 100 students who collected scholarships to attend colleges and universities following graduation.
RFSD sends off seniors
The Roaring Fork School District bid farewell to 480 seniors in graduation ceremonies over the weekend. In ceremonies on Friday night and Saturday morning — dodging, for the most part, some variable weather — the district sent off a class that started its high-school career at home, with the COVID-19 pandemic kicking off just months before the end of their freshman year. Rebounding from that was a theme in speeches up and down the valley.
