Standoff in downtown Wichita ends with one in custody
WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - One person is in custody after an hourslong standoff in the Old Town area of Wichita on Wednesday afternoon. Police say they responded at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday to an apartment building in the 600 block of E Douglas for the report of a woman stating she was assaulted and threatened with a weapon by a man she lived with. Officers arrived at the scene and located the woman, but were unable to get the man out of an apartment.

Sheriff: Kansas man drowned attempting water rescue
SEDGWICK COUNTY —Two men drowned over the weekend at a lake in Sedgwick County. Just after 1 a.m. Sunday, sheriff's deputies were dispatched to Lake Afton, located east of the intersection of Viola Road or 263rd Street W and MacArthur Road- 39th St. S, on a report of a possible drowning, according to a statement from the Sedgwick County Sheriff's office.
Mulvane begins recovery after weekend storms
MULVANE, Kan. (KWCH) - Saturday night storms hit South Central Kansas hard causing damage in many communities. “I went to bed and it wasn’t raining and then I woke up about three o’clock and heard a lot of hail,” said Kyle Dillon who lives in Mulvane, “this giant branch was in the backyard.”
One in critical condition after crash in east Wichita
WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - One person is in critical condition after a crash in east Wichita on Sunday afternoon. Sedgwick County dispatch says the crash happened just after 3:45 p.m. at E Corporate Hills Drive and S Webb Rd near Costco. One person suffered minor injuries and another was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
Search continues for suspect in acid attack on Kan. teen
SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a violent attack on a Kansas teen, have made two arrests and continue to search for another suspect. Just after noon May 26, police responded to a disturbance in the 400 block of N Dodge in Wichita, according to Wichita Police Captain Aaron Moses. The victim in this case, an 18-year-old girl later arrived at an area hospital with second degree burns to the face and neck believed to be caused by a suspect throwing an acidic liquid on her during a physical fight. Police do not believe the attack was a random incident.
