The ex-boyfriend of a young mother fatally gunned down outside her Bessemer home three years ago has pleaded guilty in her slaying. De’Anthius Jacobien Edwards, 23, was set to go on trial Monday in the shooting death of 21-year-old Joanne “LaShay” Jackson, the mother of 3-year-old twins at the time she was killed.

Birmingham man convicted of fentanyl related drug crime
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - A jury has convicted a man of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute fentanyl after one day of testimony. According to evidence presented at trial, Demarcus Hill and his co-defendant, JT Toombs, drove from Birmingham to Atlanta where they picked up over 2000 fentanyl pills to bring back to Birmingham. An Oxford Police Department officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle on Interstate 20. His canine detected the odor of narcotics, and after searching the vehicle, the officer found the fentanyl pills.
