    Center Point man killed in weekend assault identified

    JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. ( WIAT ) — A 54-year-old Center Point man killed during an assault on April 27 was identified Tuesday morning.

    According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the 1500 block of Charter East Circle in Center Point shortly before 10:00 p.m. on reports of a person injured.

    Deputies arrived to find the victim, Gemar Hubbard, already being treated for blunt force injuries by Center Point Fire and Rescue. Hubbard was transported to St. Vincent’s East Hospital for treatment where he later died from his injuries.

    The JCSO confirms Hubbard’s death is being investigated as a homicide. No one is in custody in connection with the case at this time.
