Congratulations to Jack Olson, who lives in Weston, on his LDS mission call to Auckland, New Zealand. Jack has a brother currently serving a mission, also in New Zealand, who will be returning next fall from his mission, and a sister who has her call to serve in Canada. Three missionaries from one family at the same time — now that has to be a record!!! It will be fun to see how many graduating seniors from West Side High School have mission calls when they graduate in May.

For the first time in more than 75 years, bars and restaurants in Preston will be allowed to sell drinks containing hard liquor. At its April 22 meeting, the Preston City Council voted 3-2 to allow the sale of liquor for on-premise consumption at establishments within the city, overturning a “dry county” ordinance that has been in place since 1947. The move follows a similar action earlier this year by the Franklin County Commission.

COLUMN: Let's Talk
I admit to feeling flattered when Mr. Wayne Schow took the time to not only read my column entitled, “Who picks your starting pitcher?” but wrote a professional and cordial rebuttal. I find myself thinking he would have been an outstanding professor if I had chosen to attend ISU and declared English as my major. But instead I chose a more distant BYU and music. A campus where Mom would be less likely to “drop in” to check on me. BYU? A university that offers college credit for studying the effect on society of Taylor Swift’s music and celebrity status!? Seriously? But I digress…
