The Sounds of Philadelphia come to Montreal with Yannick Nezet-Seguin
The Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau (PCVB) made a pit stop in Montreal towards the end of April to encourage Quebecers to consider spending some time in the City of Brotherly Love. Following a reception with journalists and travel experts at the Esplanade Tranquille, they brought the group to the Maison Symphonique to attend a special one-night only sold-out concert by Montreal’s Yannick Nezet-Seguin, who is now with the Philadelphia Philharmonic Orchestra. Matias Tarnopolsky, the president and CEO of the Orchestra, told me that Nezet-Seguin became their conductor in 2010 and it is expected he will remain in that post until 2030. Montreal still has a piece of him, as he heads our Orchestre Métropolitain. Gregg Keren, the president and CEO of the PCVB, stated how Sylvester Stallone’s boxing character “Rocky to us is like Elvis is to Las Vegas.” Also on hand was a representative from a region called the Countryside of Philadelphia, something I had not heard of before.
