Degraded heat tape sparks small fire near Breckenridge Friday morning
Firefighters responded to a small fire Friday, April 26, at Tiger Run Resort, according to the Red, White & Blue Fire Protection District. Deputy chief of operations Drew Hoehn said the fire started at a “permanent tiny home” at the RV park. Upon responding around 10:30 a.m., Hoehn said firefighters found a roughly 6-inch flame coming from degraded heat tape in the gutter of the home.

Project this year will add variable speed limit signs on Interstate 70 through Dowd Canyon near Vail
Interstate 70 through Dowd Canyon has long been a trouble spot. Technology will play a role in the latest effort to improve safety on that stretch of road. The Colorado Department of Transportation, along with contractor Lumin8 Technologies, in early May will begin installation of 18 variable speed limit signs along a four-mile stretch of interstate between mile points 169 and 173. The work is expected to be finished by early fall.

A recent study in a scientific journal indicates that the vast majority (79% each year) of our water is used for crops to feed beef cattle. Growers of cattle-feed crops like alfalfa and grass hay were found to be overwhelmingly the largest single consumers of water in the Colorado River basin (CRB). Domestic water use accounts for just 13% of this same regional consumption according to this research article.
