Claremont Police Department officers responded at 10:58 p.m. to a call regarding someone who had damaged the window and taillights of a car outside the Claremont Palms Apartments, 750 W. San Jose Ave. Arriving officers were given a description of the suspect. Police said Mercedez Padilla, 32, of Grand Terrace, returned to the location and admitted to damaging the car. She was subsequently arrested for felony vandalism, taken to CPD jail for booking, and released with a citation to appear in Pomona Superior Court.

Firefighters extinguished a fire which had threatened an apartment complex in Rancho Cucamonga on April 30, according to the Rancho Cucamonga Fire District. At 11:50 a.m., the Fire District received reports of smoke seen in the area of Foothill Boulevard and Vineyard Avenue. Upon arrival, crews found a 100 x 100 foot spot fire that was spreading, causing an immediate structure threat.

A young child died in a traffic collision in northern Fontana on April 30, according to the Fontana Police Department. Shortly after 4 p.m., officers were called to the scene of a collision at the intersection of Baseline and Almeria avenues. Upon arrival, they found that a red Nissan Altima, which was making a left turn to head south on Almeria, had been struck by a white Honda Accord traveling east on Baseline, said Public Information Officer Daniel Romero.
