First Alert Forecast: toasty temperatures
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - Wilmington and most of the rest of the Cape Fear Region has eclipsed 80 degrees for the first three days of the work week and your First Alert Forecast stacks several more warm days. Chances for spring showers and storms are 10% Thursday, 0% Friday, and 30% for each weekend day and those of early next week. Wilmington officially recorded 0.01 inches of rain on Wednesday, May 1, though there were a few heavier storms around.
Video shows man getting arrested after crawling out of stolen food truck’s window, per police
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - The Wilmington Police Department arrested and charged 24-year-old Joao Vithor De Lara Silva with stealing a food truck on Wednesday, May 1. According to the WPD, officers were called about the theft initially near 1000 South College Road. The WPD says it was found on Peachtree Avenue soon after, and Silva was found trying to get out of the truck’s window. Video submitted to WECT shows police arresting Silva after he crawled out of the window, the WPD says.
Sheriff’s office searching for missing teen last seen in Wilmington
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is searching for 13-year-old Tory Blue Williams. Per the NHCSO, Williams is 5 feet and 6 inches tall with brown eyes and medium-length curly brown hair. They were last seen on Tuesday, April 30, at 2600 Bridgewater Cove, Wilmington, wearing a tan jacket and shorts.
This road in northern New Hanover County will soon see new jobs and housing opportunities
In the northern part of New Hanover County, the only part that hasn’t seen major growth and development, one road is seeing an increase in industrial and residential growth. On Blue Clay Road, industrial buildings line the road on one side with railroad tracks on the other. One could see this as symbolism for the growth coming to one of the only somewhat rural sections left of the county.

Anna Walker left her home in Oak Island on October 28, 2023, and then her body was found floating in Smith Creek in Wilmington about a month later on November 25, 2023.

Rain chances will sink to 0-10% for tonight, Thursday and Friday before building with the next front to 30% for Saturday and Sunday. Areas of dense fog will develop overnight into early Thursday morning. Allow a little extra time on your morning commute. Keep your outdoor plans intact and have a backup. Alligator spotted in Caswell Beach; residents asked to contact officials if they spot it

(WECT) - An alligator was spotted on Caswell Beach Monday and Tuesday morning, according to the Town of Caswell Beach. “Yesterday, town administration requested that police notify the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) because our officers are not authorized, trained, and equipped to handle dangerous wildlife. Wilmington secures funding for low-income housing development. Here's what to know.
Part of the city of Wilmington's HOME-ARP funds will go toward housing extremely low-income individuals in a new supportive housing development on Carolina Beach Road.
