Shallotte Middle School closed following water line break; to reopen Friday
SHALLOTTE, N.C. (WECT) - Shallotte Middle School is closed Thursday, April 18, following a water line break in town, according to Brunswick County Schools. “At 7:25 a.m., Brunswick County Schools administrators were made aware of a main waterline break in the town of Shallotte. Due to this, Shallotte Middle School will be closed on Thursday, April 18, 2024. Students who have already arrived on campus will be served breakfast and dismissed at 9:00 a.m. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school,” the BCS announcement states. “Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in this matter.”

Two sea turtles rescued from hooks near Oak Island pier
OAK ISLAND, N.C. (WECT) - The Oak Island Sea Turtle Protection Program was able to save two hooked turtles at separate times on April 16. The program received four turtle calls, two about sea turtles on hooks and two about diamondback terrapins. The two sea turtles were Kemp’s Ridleys, the most endangered sea turtle.
