Troy woman pleads guilty to yearslong fraud to obtain benefits
BANGOR — A Troy woman has pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Bangor to Social Security fraud, health care fraud, and theft of public money. According to court records, from about October 2013 to February 2020, Christie Mitchell, 49, lied to the Social Security Administration (SSA) about her husband’s presence in her household and his income to fraudulently appear eligible for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments.
Hundreds walk in 22nd annual Bangor Walk for Autism
BANGOR -- Hundreds of community members came out to the Bangor Waterfront Sunday to support and celebrate people with autism. The 22nd annual Walk for Autism is organized each year by the Autism Society of Maine. According to organizers, this roughly one mile walk is the organization's biggest fundraiser of the year, and over 400 people registered.
Volunteers provide monthly meal for those living in Bangor encampment
BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - A group of volunteers have been providing a monthly hot meal to those living in the encampment behind Bangor’s Hope House. “Once a month we come here and we have a feed for the unhoused that have been gathered into this area behind Hope House, Camp Hope. We bring out a bunch of volunteers. everyone pitches in and brings, its potluck style,” explained Joe Simpson, volunteering.
