Browntail moths under attack from fungus
BANGOR -- There may be relief this summer in the struggle with Browntail moths. State officials say a fungus is infecting the moths and is causing them to kill themselves off. The moths are known to destroy trees and also shed fine hairs that can cause a poison ivy like rash. Mainer's have turned to a special ointment in recent years to stop from itching. Officials say the fungus infected caterpillars last fall, causing many to kill themselves off. It's spread from one caterpillar to another which could cause entire colonies to collapse. The fungus can cause the caterpillars to change their behavior so that they go back to where the masses are to spread it to the rest of the population.

Maine Mayhem Film Festival features student films
BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Eight Film students from Southern Maine Community College had their films screened at Bangor Arts Exchange Sunday. “Each year we get essentially a screener of student films. It’s usually about half a dozen student films and you never know what you’re going to get which makes it I think, very exciting. These students have to pitch in front of a group that accepts their proposals and then they are allowed to make these films. They’re usually short films anywhere from like five to 10-minute films,” said Bangor Arts Exchange’s Managing Director, Joshua Gass.
