A Rice Lake man is facing decades in prison if convicted of charges filed against him after police say they seized more than $15,000 worth of methamphetamine during a drug bust at his residence. Hormel Foods gives state layoff notification for Barron hatchery
Hormel Foods officially notified the state Department of Workforce Development and the mayor of Barron on Tuesday of its intention to permanently lay off 38 workers at its Barron hatchery, but emphasized in an online statement that employees had the option to accept a transfer within the company or take a severance package. SPOONER — Ruby’s Pantry is an event held on the second Saturday of the month in Spooner from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Anyone who eats can purchase a bundle for $25. Fires destroy house on HIghway K, damage apartment in Stone Lake
Area fire departments responded to two structure fires over the past weekend, one of which destroyed a house on Landgraf Lane in the town of Bass lake and the other which damaged an apartment on Main Street in Stone Lake. Qt 6:15 a.m. Monday April 22, a passerby called in a fire at an apartment occupied by Frank Kearns next door to the business he owns, Marie’s Hideaway bar and restaurant, on West Main Street in Stone Lake. Scout Troop 28 bestows Eagle rank to two scouts
Scout Troop 28, from St. Joseph Catholic Church, recently awarded the highest scout rank of Eagle to TJ Olsen and Luke Watrud during an Eagle Court of Honor. Both young men began as Cub Scouts in their early elementary school years and continued with the program through their senior year in high school. To earn Eagle Scout, each is required to complete a minimum of 21 merit badges and to lead younger scouts during an approved project in the community. Watrud’s project consisted of washing and repainting the archway at St. Joe's Cemetery on South Main Street in Rice Lake and cleaning gravestones. Olsen’s project was to clean up underbrush and rebuild the picnic tables on Scout Island off Hospital Point in Rice Lake. By leading younger scouts on a multilevel project, both young men used their leadership skills they acquired while in Scouts to successfully complete the projects in a timely manner and within budget and guidelines.
Jenni-O hatchery to lay off 38 employees
BARRON, Wis. (WEAU) - Hormel Foods notified the Department of Workforce Development that its Jennie-O hatchery in Barron will be laying off several employees this summer. According to paperwork filed by the company dated, April 23, it will be eliminating 38 jobs at its 506 West Division Avenue location in Barron, Wis.

SHELL LAKE — The Shell Lake School Board hired a number of staff members at their meeting Monday, April 15. Morgan Forrestal and Peggy Jones-Matz were hired as part-time food service employees for 2024-25. Julie Westlund, Eric Schenkenberg, Katie Zehm, Stan Lamb and Ashley Krause were hired as summer custodial crew.
