A Rice Lake man is facing decades in prison if convicted of charges filed against him after police say they seized more than $15,000 worth of methamphetamine during a drug bust at his residence.

Police arrested 33-year-old David J. Anderson Jr. on April 19, when 211 grams of meth valued at more than $15,000 on the street were seized at his home after a weeks-long undercover drug operation, the Barron County’s Sheriff’s Department had announced Monday.

Two charges of delivery of meth and one of possession with intent to deliver meth — all felonies — were filed against Anderson on Wednesday in Barron County Circuit Court.

According to the criminal complaint, a confidential informant for the Barron County Sheriff’s Department arranged to buy two balls of meth for $300 from Anderson on April 8, and eventually that transaction took place at the defendant’s home at 1768 19th St. to the south of Rice Lake.

The confidential informant had worn an audio transmitter and recorded a conversation with a person believed to be the defendant, who sold him approximately 8 grams of meth for $300. The informant later positively identified Anderson as the seller.

The same confidential informant also wore a transmitter when they bought more meth on April 17 at Anderson’s residence.

Police obtained a search warrant for Anderson’s home, which netted them packaging materials that had been used in the controlled buys, baggies containing a substance that appeared to be meth and a digital scale, among other items.

During a police interview, Anderson said he would buy 1 to 4 ounces of meth that he would sell in three to seven days to supply his addiction. At times he would buy approximately 3 ounces of meth and typically sell 1 ounce for $500 to $600 or, if needed, for $400. He could purchase every other day for resale if he needed to, he said, and admitted he has sources in both Minnesota and the Eau Claire area.

Although not charged by the District Attorney’s Office with bail jumping on Wednesday, Anderson had been arrested on that charge as well on April 19, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Anderson had pleaded guilty on March 22 in Barron County to possession of meth with intent to deliver meth. This charge had been filed on Oct. 18 after an officer investigated a vehicle that was parked on the wrong side of West Douglas Street in Rice Lake.

As a result of the latest criminal charges, Anderson’s $5,000 signature bond was revoked on Wednesday in the Oct. 18 case, and a $5,000 cash bond was set in the latest case.

Anderson is in Barron County Jail awaiting arraignment on May 31. If convicted of possession with intent to deliver meth, he could be fined up to $100,000 and sentenced to prison for up to 40.
