LINDSBORG, Kan. — There’s one day of the year when history roars back to life for Millfest at the Lindsborg Old Mill and Swedish Heritage Museum. On Saturday, May 4, the main event is when four stories of machinery in the 126-year-old Smoky Valley Roller Mills again spin into action like they have since the late 1800s.

Buhler City Council to meet Tuesday
BUHLER, Kan. — The Buhler City Council will deal with water issues at its meeting on Tuesday. A municipal water conservation plan is on the council's consent agenda and they also have two pieces of business to attend to, a KDHE loan for a water line and a separate KDHE loan for meters.
Emberhope speaks to Newton City Commission
NEWTON, Kan. — At Tuesday night’s meeting, the City Commission heard Emberhope’s proposal for an expansion on their Newton campus. Emberhope President and CEO Nickaila Sandate and consultant Jim Scott described the first phase of a long-term master plan: Hope Estates, a 38-unit affordable housing development designed to serve the community needs for teens aging out of foster care, foster families, and seniors. It will include one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments in townhouses, duplexes, and a small apartment building.
Marion Teachers nominated for Kansas Teacher of the Year
USD 408 Marion-Florence teachers Shannon Cooper and Topher Rome were recently nominated by their district for the Kansas Teacher of the Year (KTOY) Awards. According to their website, the Kansas Teacher of the Year Award recognizes and utilizes representatives of excellent teaching in the elementary and secondary classrooms of the state. Its mission is to “build and utilize a network of exemplary teachers who are leaders in the improvement of schools, student performance and the teaching profession”.
