Stingray baseball and softball district playoff set
Stingray baseball split the week, winning 12-5 on the road vs. the Robinson Knights on Tuesday, April 23. Sumner closed its season on Thursday night with an 8-5 Senior Night loss to the Strawberry Crest Chargers in the tank. Sumner baseball then played the Riverview Sharks on Monday in first round district playoff action.
Durant baseball advances to District Championship
The Cougars defeat Crest 7-2 in a cross-town rivalry. Tuesday’s game was a cross-town rivalry as a part of the 2024 FHSAA Baseball District Tournament featuring the 20-3 Durant Cougars and the 16-8 Strawberry Crest Chargers. These teams faced off back on April 8 and Durant won a close one 3-2. Crest was coming off a district mercy rule win vs Ridge Community, as the Cougars put a 9-game winning streak on the line, not losing a single game in April.
Louisville receives commitment of USF defensive end Tramel Logan
Louisville has added another key piece to its defense via the transfer portal as South Florida defensive end Tramel Logan. A member of the Bulls 2020 recruiting class, Logan appeared in 43 games in four seasons at USF. The 6-foot-4, 247-pound end has 20 career starts, including 10 of 13 games last season.
South shore ends regular season baseball, playoffs open
All five South Shore high school baseball teams completed their regular season last week. All five competed in the post-season district playoffs Monday and Tuesday this week in games after this newspaper’s deadline. District championships are Thursday, May 2, at 7 p.m. District champs from this week have the top 4 seeds for the regional playoffs. At-large bids go to teams that finish 5 through 8 in this week’s district playoffs. Regional playoffs start Tuesday, May 7, with winners advancing to the 2024 FHSAA (Florida High School Athletic Association) State Baseball tourney in Ft. Myers, beginning Wednesday, May 15.
