Heavy overnight rains and saturated grounds have forced Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Motor Speedway (PPMS) officials to cancel the Action Event scheduled for Saturday, May 18th. The Choice for Change event is rapidly approaching! On May 25th, our All Ways Safe Flagging and Traffic Control Young Gun competitors will take center spotlight as they race for their selected charitable cause. The winning driver will donate proceeds to their selected organization and celebrate with that organization in Victory Lane. They will be joined by the RUSH Sprint Cars, who will attempt their first visit to PPMS of the 2024 season. These two divisions will be joined by the Rohrich Parts Center / Chevrolet Performance RUSH Late Models, Pittsburgh Truck Center Penn Ohio Pro Stocks, Fuel Required Hobby Stocks, and Crawford Auto Repair Open Four Cylinders will make for a great night of racing at 'Dirt's Monster Half Mile!

Overtime: Pittsburgh residents score a slam dunk at ‘What’s Going On!’
10—To be honest, a slam dunk would be an understatement…it was more like a triple-double as some of Pittsburgh’s most invested and concerned citizens came together at the 3rd annual Achieving Greatness “What’s Going On Town Hall Forum!” The event was held Saturday, April 27, at the Hampton Inn located in Monroeville. The purpose is to bring together like-minded community leaders, educators and civil servants to discuss what’s going on in the Pittsburgh, Allegheny County and Western Pa. communities, both good and bad, in an attempt to improve our living conditions and quality of life for residents of all ages, races, sexes, social and political positions. Playoff win proves emotional for North Hills softball
Faced with a frighteningly similar situation as a year ago, the North Hills softball team showed the resiliency that’s been a year in the making. Last season, the Indians were upset by No. 12 seed South Fayette in the WPIAL’s opening round of the Class 5A postseason. The loss stunned a North Hills group that felt like it had the talent for a deep run.
Girls relay team uses home-track advantage to win at Baldwin Invitational
The girls 3,200-meter relay team’s performance at the 50th annual Baldwin Invitational is one senior Mackenzie Hirt won’t soon forget. Hirt, a fourth-year competitor for the Baldwin girls track and field team, and sophomores Molly Gorman, Mackenzie Bowen and Julianne Ott, took first place at the invitational May 3 at Baldwin Stadium.

CHICAGO - Paul Skenes learned plenty during his sole season at LSU. The Pirates’ prized right-hander furthered his repertoire, transformed his body and in turn became a No. 1 overall pick. While residing in Baton Rouge, La., Skenes also developed a curiosity toward grilling various meats, a familiar sight during tailgates at the Tigers’ home football games.

Trib 10: Handful of baseball, softball teams fall out of power rankings in early days of playoffs
The 2024 WPIAL diamond playoffs are through the first round in baseball and halfway through the softball postseason with two rounds down and two remaining. It makes sense, then, that there was move movement in the softball power rankings as three teams were bounced, leaving the door wide open for three newcomers on the brink of the district final four.
Westmoreland high school notebook: Softball tripleheader on tap at Gateway
Local softball fans will get a treat Wednesday if they make a trip to Monroeville. There will be a playoff tripleheader at Gateway. Penn-Trafford will play Thomas Jefferson at 3 p.m. in one WPIAL 5A semifinal, followed by Hempfield and Norwin at 5 in a 6A semifinals, and Latrobe faces Thomas Jefferson at 7 in the other 5A semifinal.
