Getting Answers: Holyoke mayor discusses confusion over receivership
HOLYOKE, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Questions in Holyoke about when the city’s schools will formally get out of receivership and take back control from the state. Back in march it was announced that Holyoke Public Schools would begin transitioning out of receivership, however Mayor Garcia told us that led to some confusion. He said they are still under the state’s control however they are in the process of getting out and at a meeting on Monday night they discussed what that will look like.
Agawam residents pass property tax override to fund new high school
AGAWAM, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - Residents approved a property tax override on Tuesday night that will help fund a brand new high school in Agawam. According to Mayor Christopher Johnson, the override passed with an overwhelming majority. 71 percent of voters approving the tax increase that will fund that new school with 29 percent voting no.
