A man who complained about not getting sauce at a Zephyrhills McDonald’s drive-thru is facing felony charges after he shot another customer who tried to calm him down, police reported.

The incident started Tuesday at the McDonald’s at 6042 Gall Blvd. Wesley Lee Bullock, 48, is facing charges of aggravated assault with a firearm and armed burglary in connection with the incident, Zephyrhills police said.

The man who was shot, Justin Garlitis, 19, said he was waiting for food in the pickup area when he saw Bullock “screaming” at an employee about not getting sauce, according to an affidavit.

Garlitis later told police he was concerned for the employee’s safety, so he approached Bullock and asked him to calm down. Bullock then choked and punched Garlitis, who left in his vehicle and drove to a nearby Speedway gas station. Bullock followed him in a Mercedes and cut him off, according to the affidavit.

The vehicles hit one another, then Garlitis tried to back away. Bullock got out of the Mercedes with a silver handgun. He aimed it at Garlitis’ forehead and pulled the trigger, but the gun didn’t fire, the affidavit states.

Bullock then hit Garlitis in the head with the gun and tried to fire it again, but Garlitis was able to grab the gun. Bullock bit Garlitis on a finger during the struggle. A bullet was fired and hit Garlitis in the pinky finger, the affidavit states.

Garlitis was then able to drive away and call police. Investigators interviewed Garlitis and restaurant employees who witnessed the incident; they also reviewed surveillance video from the restaurant and the gas station that confirmed the witness accounts, the affidavit states.

Police obtained a warrant for Bullock and arrested him on Wednesday. Bail information was not immediately available.
