Some Maine groundwater hits record lows amid drought

Groundwater levels in parts of Maine are hitting record lows as drought conditions worsen across the state. Nick Stasulis, a water specialist at the U.S. Geological Survey said that monitoring wells in southern and central Maine are registering levels that are below or very below normal for this time of year.

Strong low pressure over the Maritimes combined with high pressure moving in from our west... will make for a breezy day with a northwest wind gusting to 25-35 MPH at times. Temperatures will be more seasonable with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s north and low to mid-50s elsewhere. Clouds will move back in tonight as our next weathermaker approaches. BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Low pressure approaching from the Great Lakes Region will bring some much needed rain to the area. Rain will continue to spread eastward across the state this afternoon. Temperatures will be borderline... but may be just cold enough for some wet snow or rain/snow mix over northern and western locales... especially in the higher terrain with a coating to 1” not out of the question... otherwise it looks like a mainly rain event. The combination of clouds... rain... a colder air mass... and an easterly breeze will make for a cool day with highs only reaching the mid-30s to low 40s north and 40s to near 50° elsewhere.
