Early voting is off to a slow start in Cherokee County.

Advance voting for the May 21 primary election began April 29 and will last through May 17.

Cherokee County Elections and Voter Registration Director Anne Dover told the Tribune “everything is going very well,” but that “it is a very slow voting day.”

A poll worker at the South Cherokee Annex Recreation Center in Woodstock, who asked not to be identified, said early Monday afternoon that they didn’t see a lot of voters that morning.

As of the close of polls April 29, 379 people had cast a ballot at Cherokee’s early voting locations, according to a report from the county’s elections department. For the full report including numbers for each location, visit https://cherokeegavotes.com.

Early voting polling locations will be open for three weeks: April 29 through May 4, May 6-11, and May 13-17.

Hours for early voting are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday April 29 through May 11, and 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, May 13 through Friday, May 17.

    Cherokee’s early voting locations are:

Voters casting a ballot in person must show one of six types of photo ID. For more information on ID requirements, visit cherokeegavotes.com/id-requirements-2 .

Those who are voting absentee have until May 10 to apply for an absentee ballot. For an absentee ballot application and more information visit cherokeegavotes.com/absentee-voting . The Cherokee elections office has urged voters to apply for absentee ballots as soon as possible due postal delays.

Absentee ballots can be turned in to a drop box at the South Cherokee Annex during early voting hours, or in person or by mail at the Cherokee County Elections and Voter Registration Office, 193 Lamar Haley Parkway in Canton. Ballots must be received by the elections office by 7 p.m. Election Day, May 21.

Those looking to vote on Election Day May 21 will need to go to their assigned precinct. To check your precinct and other voter information, go to the Secretary of State’s office My Voter Page at https://mvp.sos.ga.gov.

Election Day precincts will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
