WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) — A man has been charged in the death of another man reported missing whose remains were found on Wednesday, according to a Winston-Salem Police Department news release.

The WSPD said that they got a call on Oct. 23 reporting Zackary Voshall New missing.

As they investigated, police said that evidence indicated that New’s disappearance was “not voluntary.”

Police say that they believe New was murdered on Sept. 17, which was almost a month before he was reported missing.

At the end of November, detectives took out arrest warrants against Jerry Jonas Caudill for a firearm by a felon and concealed remains of a human body having reasonable grounds to believe that the death occurred from unnatural causes.

Caudill turned himself in on Dec. 13, and he was charged with murder and given no bond.

On April 24, the remains of New were recovered in Stokes County in the area of Middleton Loop.

The remains were positively identified as New on Friday.

“This is a sad day for our victim’s family as it confirms the death of a loved one. We do hope that we are able to provide some sort of closure and justice to the family,” Forsyth County District Attorney Jim O’Neill said.
