Veterans Cup is hosting its second Annual Veterans Cup Trivia Night fundraiser on April 20 at 5 p.m. at the Richard Childress Racing, 425 Industrial Drive, Welcome. Veterans Cup hosts and promotes weekly coffees to build peer-to-peer support networks to redirect Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) and prevent suicide. The flagship coffee meets the 1st 3rd 4th and 5th Wednesdays at American Legion Post 55 located at 111 Miller Street in Winston-Salem. This year, weekly coffees were added in Guilford County on Tuesdays at American Legion Post 53 and in Davie County on Thursdays at the Veterans View Intake Center. Veterans Cup has helped spin off other coffees in Black Mountain, Walnut Cove, Atlanta, Georgia and local coffees focusing on Gulf War veterans and Women veterans.

Veterans Cup Executive Director Sandy Whitaker, the widow of a Navy Seal, is grateful for the support local organizations have given the non-profit. This support includes Attorney Harold Eustache, Pond Country, PDC, First Bank, Concerned Veterans for America, Atlas Firearms, the Louisa Whitaker Trust, American Legion Posts 55 & 53, VFW Posts 5352 & 9010, Krispy Kreme, the Old 4th Street Filling Station, Old Vineyard Behavioral Health, the mayors of Winston-Salem, East Bend & Rural Hall, Congressman-elect Pat Harrington and the Marine Corps League Detachment 1075 who run the massive regional Toys for Tots program.

“This support helps us effectively reach under served veterans including minorities, women, and LBGTQ+. In so doing, we can bridge generations of veterans one cup at time,” said Whitaker.

Retired Army Command Sergeant Major Alex Nelson, the organizer of the Veterans Cup Trivia Night, who is also a major sponsor through his company Old Town Gymnastics said, “Saturday’s Trivia Night will be lots of fun had by all. This event brings the community together with Trivia Judges including WGHP’s Kevin Connelly , WTOB’s Ken Houser, Forbush High School Principal Walter Johnson and Brigadier General Martin Clay.”

The Forsyth County Commissioners Trivia Troop team will defend the championship they won last year. Teams will compete for trophies and bragging rights while helping a great cause. $400 table teams and $50 individual player spots are still available.
