82-year-old dies in Charleston car crash, police say
A woman died in a crash that took place Friday afternoon in Charleston, authorities say. Wilma Ellis, 82, was driving an SUV near the construction along MacCorkle Avenue SE at about 3 p.m. when the vehicle hit a gravel pile near a hole in the road causing the vehicle to flip.
West Virginia Democrats to hold State Convention
CHARLESTON – The West Virginia Democratic Party will hold its State Convention June 14-15 at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center, 200 Civic Center Drive. About 700 delegates are planned for the convention that starts with registration at 3 p.m. Friday, followed by committee meetings starting at 4 p.m., the party announced on Friday.

Heightened Flash Flood Risk This Morning Thanks to Sluggish Low Pressure
WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Slow-moving low pressure and a very moist atmosphere will trigger spots of standing water, poor drainage flooding and elevated streams this morning. Doppler radar indicates pockets of 1.5-2.0 inches of rain will fall in an hour in the heavier showers and thunderstorms, mainly west of our region in the Charleston area. Flooding is underway in parts of Kanawha, Logan and Mingo counties.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice said Friday he is ending the state of emergency over staffing in the state Department of Corrections. The Republican governor called on the state National Guard to help stop worker attrition at the state’s jails and prisons almost two years ago now. Last summer, the vacancy rate was more than 30%.
