    Sanford man facing felony firearm and drug possession charges

    WINDSOR, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A Sanford man is facing felony charges after officers located firearms and drugs in his vehicle during a traffic stop.

    The Broome County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of Scott Hanrahan, 37. Hanrahan, who has two prior felony convictions, is being accused of possessing illegal firearms and narcotics in the Town of Windsor.

    On April 27, at approximately 5:06 p.m., Sheriff’s Road Patrol conducted a traffic stop on Route I-86 West in Windsor. During the investigation, deputies located a spoon containing a white powdery substance that field tested positive for cocaine as well as a case containing loaded black Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 .22 LR, an AR-15 style rifle with an attached 25-round magazine, and another 25-round magazine full of .22 LR rounds.

    Hanrahan was identified as the driver of the vehicle. He was charged with the following:

    • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Felon in Possession of a Firearm), a Class C Felony
    • Two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device), Class D Felonies
    • Criminal Possession of an Assault Weapon in the Third Degree, a Class D Felony
    • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor.

    Hanrahan remains in custody at the Broome County Jail.
