Cobden native killed in Korean War to buried
SOUTHERN Ill. (KFVS) - The remains of a Cobden native killed in the Korean War will be interred on Wednesday, May 29. According to a release from the U.S. Army Human Resources Command, Army Pfc. Bryan Myers, Jr. will be interred at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois. Fred C. Dames Funeral Home in Joliet will perform the graveside services.
Joliet Man Arrested After Violently Kicking A Dog Numerous Times
A Joliet man arrested for cruelty to animals and resisting a peace officer. It was on May 19th at about 11:24 a.m., that Joliet Police Officers responded to a residence in the 800 block of Croghan Avenue for an animal cruelty complaint. Upon arrival, Officers learned that 36-year-old Giovanny Aguilar was observed in the backyard of his residence violently kicking a bull terrier dog numerous times while the dog laid on the ground.

They’re Roaring Back To Joliet
Good crowds this past weekend at Route 66 Raceway and apparently NHRA was impressed. WJOL has learned that they’ve signed a contract to return to Route 66 Raceway in 2025. This event was not always a guarantee, the track opened in 1998 and hosted this national event until 2019, but canceled due to COVID initially and not brought back for other reasons. NHRA returned in 2023 and with the success of this year’s event will be back next year in May as well.

JFD Crews Fight Sunday Morning Fire
Just after 9:30am on May 26th, the Joliet Fire Department responded to 2101 Bronk Road (Timber Ridge Middle School) for report of smoke and flames coming from the roof. The first units arrived within 5 minutes of the call and found fire coming from the main roof area. Firefighters extended ladders from multiple sides to reach affected areas and entered the building to check for fire extension. Crews determined the fire was contained to a layer of insulation between the shingles and the metal roof. A hose line was brought up to the roof to extinguish the fire.

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Lightning is being blamed for a fire at a middle school in Joliet. Firefighters responded to Timber Ridge Middle School for a report of smoke and flames coming from the roof. Officials say lightning struck the school's roof, sparking the insulation between the shingles and the metal roof. Crews quickly put out the flames before it could spread. No one was hurt.

Police in south suburban Lemont were investigating Saturday afternoon after an Amtrak train struck and killed a woman, authorities said. The incident was reported at around 3:30 p.m. near downtown Lemont.
