BISMARCK, ND ( KXNET ) — Emergency response crews from McKenzie County and Williams County banded together on the evening of Monday, April 9, after a tractor-trailer crash resulted in a potential chemical hazard.
According to a press release from the Williston Fire Department (WFD), at approximately 6:24 p.m., staffers with the WFD, the McKenzie County Sheriff’s Office, and the Alexander Fire Department the were dispatched to a report of a single tractor-trailed rollover with injuries i the area of 146th Avenue NW and 38th Street NW. Upon arriving at the scene, it was discovered that the tractor-trailer involved in the accident was hauling a hazardous material (condensate), and was leaking product from the tank.
North Dakota Crash Tracker 2024 At the request of McKenzie County Emergency Management, the WFD and the Williams County Emergency Management Hazardous Materials Response Team were activated to assist with cleanup. First responders were able to plug the leak on the tanker, and HazMat units remained on the scene while recovery crews offloaded the remaining product into another vessel before the damaged vehicle was removed. All WFD and Williams County units were cleared from the scene at 11:09 p.m.
The driver of the tractor-trailer suffered non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the accident, and was transported to CHI St. Alexius in Williston for treatment.
