WILLINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) — One person has died, and four others were injured in a single-car crash in Willington Saturday, according to state police.

At around 10:15 p.m., troopers were called to River Road after a 2007 Subaru Legacy overturned.

One of the passengers, 19-year-old Maria Damata of Bethel, died at a local hospital, state police said. The four other occupants were treated for minor injuries at a hospital.

Central Connecticut State University confirmed with News 8 that Damata was a student at the university. President Zulma R. Toro released a statement following the crash.

“My heart goes out to Maria Rita Da Mata’s family,” Toro stated. “Maria was well on her way to completing a degree in Marketing from our School of Business. The university family will keep the Da Mata family in our thoughts and prayers.”

State police said that the Subaru was driving southbound on River Road when, for an unknown reason, the 21-year-old driver lost control, causing the car to roll over.

Anyone with information is asked to call Trooper Polci at 860-896-3200.
