Paola Masonic Lodge honors students, teachers
PAOLA – Members of the Paola Masonic Lodge presented awards to students and teachers during a banquet Thursday, May 2, at the Paola United Methodist Church. Four $500 scholarships were awarded to high school seniors who plan to attend a trade school in Kansas. The students receiving the scholarships were: Samuel Johnson, Bailey Donahue, Fisher Woolsey, Devin Gainer and Eli Meyers.

Edgerton family farm holds pancake breakfast to celebrate start of strawberry picking season
EDGERTON, Kan. (KCTV) - Saturday’s weather provided the perfect setting for picking strawberries in the Kansas City area. Since 2001, Gieringer’s Family Farm in Edgerton, Kan., has grown into a destination for all kinds of berry picking. In May, strawberries are back in season. So to begin strawberry picking season the farm held a pancake breakfast to kick things off.
Museum presentation will discuss petroglyphs
The Miami County Historical Museum in Paola will host a presentation called “A Massacre Etched in Stone: Petroglyphs of the Kansas Smokey Hills” on Saturday, May 18. The free program will begin at 1 p.m. at the museum, which is located at 12 E. Peoria St. In Paola.
Celebrating National Bike to School Day
PAOLA – Sunflower Elementary students enjoyed a neighborhood bike ride and learned about Type 1 diabetes during a special event in honor of National Bike to School Day. The event took place Wednesday, May 8, and it involved an assembly featuring guest speaker Kent Schnakenberg of Team Schnak Cycling. Schnakenberg talked about bicycle safety and the importance of Type 1 diabetes research.
