Nothin’ but a hound dog: Emotional support animal helps comfort homeless shelter residents
OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) - An Owensboro homeless shelter has adopted an emotional support dog to help bring joy and comfort to its residents. Daniel Pitino Shelter Executive Director Harry Pedigo says the whole thing started a few months ago when a few of the residents started asking if the shelter would consider getting a pet.
No tax increases in proposed city budget
The Owensboro City Commission heard the proposed city budget for fiscal year 2024-25 during a work session Tuesday afternoon at City Hall. The proposed budget includes no tax increases and largely stays flat, with its total of $157,880,489 about $3.5 million more than the current fiscal budget.

Annual Police Memorial to take place Thursday
The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 16 will hold its annual Police Memorial Service at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Life Community Church, 1101 Breckenridge St. The memorial is held in honor of law enforcement officers who have died on duty in the past year. Retired officers who also passed away are also remembered.
KY 3335 blocked until Wednesday
HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – A scheduled road closure might impact Daviess County traffic. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) says KY 3335 in Daviess County is scheduled to be closed Monday through Wednesday between the 0.5 and 1.1 mile marks. Officials say this is for brush removal.
Regional tennis championship matches postponed to Wednesday
Championship individual and doubles matches for the 3rd Region Tennis Tournament were postponed from Tuesday to Wednesday because of rain that went through the area. The Wednesday start times for the regional championship matches in boys and girls singles, and boys and girls doubles, will be at 5 p.m. at the “Bill” Thompson Outdoor Tennis Courts.
One killed in wreck on New Hartford Road
One person was killed in a multi-vehicle collision Friday night in the 3400 block of New Hartford Road. Two other people were seriously injured in the wreck, with one having been life-flighted and the other taken to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.
