Armed Forces Day event to take place Saturday
NEW YORK MILLS — The third annual Armed Forces Day Celebration will take place from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, at Harley Davidson of Utica, 4870 Commercial Drive. All veterans, area residents, and riding groups are invited, according to an announcement by event organizers. U.S. flags and signs saluting U.S. military services are also welcome.

UTICA/NEW HARTFORD — A fire that broke out last week at the Ridgewood Market & Deli plaza in Utica renewed calls for the need for cellular service in the area. Utica firefighters were dispatched at 1:10 p.m. last Thursday to 2510 Oneida St. and were successful in containing and extinguishing the fire before it could spread and take over the building. Employees from businesses inside the building were thankful to see the swift response from the fire department — especially after numerous calls to 911 were unsuccessful due to the area being a dead zone for Verizon cellular service.
