Galesville city council approves bid process to demolish Fifth Street home
After no response was received from the owner of a decaying home at 16822 S. Fifth St. in Galesville, the building appears to be on borrowed time. The Galesville city council on Thursday approved razing the home with a 5-0 vote. Councilor Dave Carlson was not at the open session portion of the meeting.
Raider baseball falls in four
Tough battles with two Coulee Conference teams and a pair of tournament losses filled a busy schedule for the Arcadia High School baseball team last week. Arcadia was beaten by Westby, one of the top Coulee teams, last Monday before falling to rival G-E-T at home on Friday (see story elsewhere in sports). A pair of tournament games closed the week for the Raiders (3-14, 1-9 Coulee)
Galesville trio celebrates 80th high school reunion
Janice Fitzpatrick summarized the day with four words and a smile. Fitzpatrick, Marge Flaherty and Wanda Sacia celebrated a milestone last week that few get to enjoy — the trio from the Galesville High School class of 1944 came together for their 80th high school class reunion on Friday.
Indee softball team splits two in Alma
The Independence/Gilmanton couldn’t get on the scoreboard in one game, then crossed home plate 19 times in three innings in another as it earned a split last week. The Indees struggled all around in an 11-0 loss at Pepin/Alma last Thursday. They returned to Alma the next day, this time playing Alma Center Lincoln on a neutral field and came away with a 19-4 win in three innings.
