Newcastle Community Climate Workshop held June 1
On Saturday, June 1, Newcastle residents gathered at Lincoln Academy to discuss the local impacts of climate change. Following a presentation about Maine’s changing climate from the Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission (LCRPC) and Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust, participants split up into small groups to share their insights and concerns, suggest possible solutions, and identify steps they would like to see the town take to prepare for changing conditions.
2nd annual Maine Needham Festival in Wiscasset this fall
Maine Tasting Center, 506 Old Bath Road, Wiscasset will host the 2nd annual Maine Needham Festival on Saturday, Sept. 28. This family-friendly event, free to attend, celebrates the cultural and culinary tradition of Maine Needhams with food, games, vendors, themed drink specials, Needham-making demonstrations and classes, and even a homemade Needham contest. Needhams, also known as “potato candy,” are a traditional Maine candy consisting of a coconut and potato filling covered in chocolate. With a history dating back over 150 years, Needhams have long been one of Maine’s favorite sweet treats.
Busy times at the Maine Art Gallery
The historic Old Academy in Wiscasset, home to the Maine Art Gallery (MAG), offers two floors of light and bright exhibit space. For the upcoming exhibition running from June 13 - July 21, the gallery will take advantage of this layout to offer two shows concurrently. The first floor will feature works by artists who have been involved in MAG’s plein air event, “Paint it! Wiscasset,” and the second floor will feature an exhibition of works on paper by Maine artists called “Drawn to Maine: Contemporary Drawing and Printmaking.”
