Lexington-Richland School District Five and the Irmo Police Department are partnering to help better serve families in the district. Police officers are now armed with information about the district’s Ready By Five program while responding to calls or doing community outreach. The Ready By Five program provides education and support to families with children prenatal to kindergarten. The goal is to prepare parents to be their children’s best and most important teacher while equipping them for school entry and lifelong success. Police officers will carry Ready By Five bags in their patrol cars that include a stuffed teddy bear, book, and a post card with links to resources available to families within the district. tinyurl.com/3ajzph34.
Irmo Fire warns of gas leak near multiple Richland 5 schools
IRMO, S.C. (WIS) - On Friday, The Irmo Fire Department notified School District Five of a gas leak near the Irmo High School campus. According to the department, at 1:48 pm firefighters were dispatched to a gas leak at 6051 Wescott Rd. near Irmo Middle School. The leak was said to be caused by a backhoe digging a hole.

Richland School District Two students Eva Deanne Pendleton and Ava J. Phelps have risen to the top of a talent pool of 15,000 outstanding finalists to be named 2024 National Merit Scholarship winners. Eva, a Blythewood High School senior, and Ava, a Spring Valley High School senior, will each receive a $2,500 scholarship.

Early morning storms cause Fairfield County school delays, damage in Midlands
COLUMBIA, S.C. — Severe storms moving through the state overnight has caused some trouble Thursday morning. Out of an abundance of caution, Fairfield County School District is on a two-hour delay. Students and staff should report two hours later as there are unconfirmed reports of tornado damage in the Ridgeway area. Trees are down and there have been areas of power outages reported. There was a tornado warning issued for that area earlier this morning.
