ZANESVILLE − Eric Pitts said the mental stress of being homeless and in the system is something you can’t understand unless you’ve been there. “You don’t know what happens when that white van pulls up and you have to be in the system,” he said of his family losing their home at 16 and him being taken to Avondale Youth Center for 14 months until his mom could secure stable housing. “I was stressed out to the point of having nosebleeds weekly. I could not really focus because I wasn’t sure what would happen next. I wasn’t sure if my life was ever going to be normal again.”

ZANESVILLE − More than a year ago, Matesich Distributing put in a request for the Budweiser Clydesdales to come to Zanesville. Recently, the business got its wish.The Budweiser Clydesdales will come to Zanesville July 16-21 and be housed at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds.“We made tentative plans just in case (they said yes),” said Kelly Jones, Matesich’s director of marketing and community engagement, who added that requesting the Clydesdales is a competitive process. “They don’t always say yes. It’s based on need. I was able to put in our application that we did have the city of Zanesville behind us, and it was going to be military-branded.”Jones said Budweiser’s 14-year partnership with Folds of Honor, an organization that supports military families through scholarships and other financial needs, dovetails perfectly with Matesich’s and the city of Zanesville’s dedication to military veterans and active-duty personnel.
