OHIO COUNTY, W.Va. (WTRF) – Authorities say a person was sent to the hospital after hitting a utility pole on 4th and Main in North Wheeling Tuesday.

Wheeling Public Information Officer Philip Stahl tells us that a man was driving north on Main Street around 3:00pm, when he struck a utility pole, breaking it into 2 pieces. This led to several people losing power in that area.

That man had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Wheeling Fire Department. He was taken to Wheeling Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

According to the AEP Outage Map, over 500 people are without power due to a separate accident that happened in the same area near Mount Wood Road.

Appalachian Power says power is set to be restored around 9:30pm – 10 p.m.
