Regional VA Office Hosts Appalachian Rural Outreach Tour

WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) — A special event that helps hundreds of West Virginia veterans get the benefits they deserve was held in Wheeling Tuesday.

The Huntington Regional VA Office began its Appalachian Rural Outreach Tour Tuesday at the American Legion Post 1 in Wheeling.

It is a tour that will last four days and visit four different areas throughout the state of West Virginia. The event invites any veterans to come out and receive assistance with filing or updating their claims and speak to various veteran organizations.

Members from the local VA office were also there to speak with veterans about services and benefits available to them.

A member from the Huntington Regional VA office shares the importance of bringing various organizations together to serve the men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

”Honestly, that’s what makes this so special, is it isn’t just about the VA, it’s about all the organizations. You know, we couldn’t do what we do without the American Legion’s, the Disabled American Veterans, the VFW, or the Veterans of Foreign Wars. It takes all of us, man, and we’re just all collectively trying to get side by side to sew our nest together, put our hands to the plow and serve our men and women that deserve it, really.”

The event also included a mobile claims clinic provided by the Vet Center for any veterans needing assistance.
