WESTFIELD — Crandon Dwyer and Thomas Dwyer both hit home runs for Lakeside Lutheran’s baseball team in a 15-1 five-inning victory at Westfield on Friday.

“Pretty cool moment for the Dwyer brothers to both homer in the same game,” Lakeside baseball coach Jake Ziel said.

Crandon Dwyer hit a 3-1 pitch out to left field for a two-run blast in the fourth inning to put the Warriors (6-3) ahead 4-1. Nolan Meis’ two-run single later in the frame made it 6-1. Meis finished with four RBIs.

Winning pitcher Philip Becraft doubled home a pair in Lakeside’s nine-run fifth, which also saw Thomas Dwyer belt a three-run shot to center on an 0-1 pitch.

Becraft punched out eight, allowing a run on two hits in four innings.

TUESDAY’S RESULTCOLUMBUS — A slow start and four errors doomed Lakeside Lutheran’s baseball team in its Capitol North opener against Columbus as the Warriors fell 8-2 at Fireman’s Park on Tuesday, April 16.

The Cardinals (7-1, 1-0 in conference) took advantage of three errors and got a run-scoring single from Owen Cowell to plate four runs in the second inning. Brady Link and Riley Kaminski had back-to-back run-scoring hits with two outs in the Columbus second, pushing the margin to 6-0.

“Our defense let us down this afternoon and we struggled to limit the damage in the second inning,” Lakeside baseball coach Jake Ziel said. “Credit to Columbus for jumping on us early and making us pay for some miscues.”

Columbus starter Axell Allain fanned eight and walked four in 4 2/3 innings, allowing a run on three hits to earn the decision.

”Allain did a nice job and controlled the game on the mound,” Ziel said. “We struggled to get any major threat going and needed to do a better job of putting the ball in play.”

Lakeside starter Nolan Meis surrendered seven runs (two earned) on five hits in five innings, fanning six with four walks, in the loss.

Philip Becraft and Logan Schwab each had two-hit games for Lakeside (5-3, 0-1).
