MADISON TWP., Ohio (WKBN) — A typo in the FAQ section and new release sent by the Ohio EPA concerning the proposed West Point landfill has extended the comment period by one week.

According to an Ohio EPA spokesperson, the correct email address to submit comments is epa.dmwmcomments@epa.ohio.gov.

The incorrect email address contained .com at the end instead of the correct .gov.

“Because of the confusion, Ohio EPA will accept comments about the proposed landfill through April 19, 2024,” said the spokesperson.

The original deadline for comments was April 11.

“This commenting period is pivotal in our fight against this landfill and with this mistake we might be missing out on comments that could change the direction of the final determination,” said Jamie Nentwick, a leader in the effort to stop the landfill.

West Point Renewables has requested a permit to operate a landfill in West Point, which is a community in Columbiana County’s Madison Township about halfway between Lisbon and East Liverpool.

A decision on the permit will be made sometime after the comment period is over.
