Child facing felonious assault charge for attacking teacher

WEST CHESTER, Ohio ( WDTN ) — An 11-year-old is facing felonious assault charges after police said they hit one of their instructors in the head with a piece of gym equipment.

The incident at the Boys and Girls Club in West Chester ended with the teacher in the hospital.

Police said the student attempted to escape after hitting the teacher in the head with a piece of gym equipment. According to the police report, both the teacher and the child were injured.

A frantic 911 call was made by a faculty member just after 3:15 p.m. Tuesday.

The caller initially said the student pushed a teacher, then said they hit the teacher on purpose. They go on to describe serious bleeding and the victim losing consciousness.

Another voice in the background yells for the teacher’s husband to be called. The caller said the student ran from the building out to the parking lot.

Administrators attempted to keep the student from leaving while waiting for authorities.

Juvenile arrested in major Stark County drug bust

The center released a statement to parents alerting them of the incident and that the student’s club membership had been terminated, effective immediately.

The Butler County Juvenile Detention Center could not confirm if the child is currently in their custody. We can confirm the child is facing one count of felonious assault.
