Coach Leon Hurst inducted into Okemah Hall of Fame. Coach Leon Hurst has been a positive example and encourager to Okemah School Students for many years. Because of his constant positive involvement in the lives of so many young people, the Okemah Community Improvement Association voted to induct Coach Leon Hurst into the Okemah Hall of Fame.
April Sales Tax Disbursements Up for Okemah and Okfuskee County
April Sales Tax Disbursements Up for Okemah and Okfuskee County. Reports for sales and use tax disbursements for April 2024 were released by the Oklahoma Tax Commission recently. The disbursements reflect local tax revenue receipts from February 2024 business. Sales tax disbursements for Okemah went up by about 8.01 percent from a year ago. It went up for Okfuskee County by about .66 percent. The April use tax disbursement went down for Okemah by about 13.15 percent. It went up for Okfuskee County by about 24.27 percent.

Oklahoma sheriff accused of taking bribes, claims charges are election interference
McALESTER — Pittsburg County Sheriff Chris Morris was charged twice Friday with receiving a bribe. The Republican, who is up for reelection, denies wrongdoing. Morris was first charged May 14 in Pittsburg County District Court with embezzlement of state property. A special prosecutor on Friday added a bribery count to the existing case and filed another bribery count as a new case.
