No Shirt, No Shoes, No Socks, No Service
Today, May 8, is a very special day. It is the day that besides being outdoor intercourse day, where people are encouraged to gather outside and converse on various subjects in the Pennsylvania town called Intercourse in Lancaster County, today is ‘National No Socks Day’! Today, if only for today, you are allowed and should not feel ashamed, to not wear socks anywhere you go. You can certainly walk outdoors without socks, and in the mall, in the office, and in church, if you go to church on Wednesday. Of course, May 8th, today, is not to be confused with ‘National Go Barefoot Day’, which is on June 1 this year. Today, you don’t have to wear socks, but you should really wear shoes. To combine these two holidays would be just as wrong as combining Christmas with Easter. They both have very different meanings.
Encampment workdays provide new trail

Lady Broncs squad run away with HDL Finals
Jayda Bushling, Aspen Hacker earn multiple league championships. Kern Valley’s girls track team claimed the HDL finals by dominating their opponents. The Lady Broncs won 10 league championships and as a team earned 176.5 points. The closest opponent was Mammoth with 85.5 points. Cal City came in with 55, Desert and Rosamond both finished with 50, Bishop scored 47.5, and Boron held up the rest of the league with 12.5 points. In the meet, Kern Valley saw nine PR’s recorded.
Bodfish veteran attends Honor Flight
Air Force Veteran Jo Aguilar at the VFW hall after he attended the Honor Flight trip with his daughter. United States Air Force Veteran, Joseph Aguilar of Bodfish, CA was an Honor flight recipient. With his daughter as his companion “Guardian,” he left for his flight April 22, spending the night in Bakersfield, before departing on the flight to Washington DC. The flight returned to Bakersfield, April 26.
County and chamber provide park repairs updates
On Friday April 26, The Kern Valley Sun attained an update from Kern County regarding repairs expected for parks in the valley after last year’s storm damages. “I’m over the construction projects,” said Michelle Burns-Lusich, senior CAO manager over construction services, at the General Services Department of Kern County.

Junior softball sweeps games versus Bishop
Kern Valley’s Junior Little League softball team started strong as they swept a pair of games from Bishop. The offense proved to be up to the task as they scored a total of 30 runs in the double header. The long trip to get top the games in Bishop did not deter the Broncs from grabbing both games. In game one Kern Valley was a 13-7 winner. They came back and used the broom to win 17-1.

Historical society holds Bonsai Show
The Kern River Valley Historical Society held a Bonsai Show at the Kern Valley Museum (KRVHS) annex cross April 27 and 28. The show featured refined and mature trees, of some students of Mr. Jack Reynolds, with no admission fee to the public. Reynolds also demonstrated bonsai activity on a fresh tree.

Trout Fest returns to Kernville
The Kern River Conservancy held its newly revived Trout Fest at the Kernville Riverside Park, Saturday, April 27. Gary Ananian founder of the organization who organized the event said, “The Trout Fest is an event that we used to have at the Hatchery years ago. You may remember that the Hatchery closed; they kind of canceled the Trout Fest as well. So I was able to get permission from Fish and Wildlife to bring it back.”
Non profit, Sierra Shared Spaces holds forum
Justin Powers, founder of Sierra Shared Spaces and Ashley Proctor pioneer of the cowork movement. The nonprofit Sierra Shared Spaces held a forum for community input, Saturday April 27, at 178 Bar and Grill, during which its founders sought ideas for a community hub the group plans to build in Lake Isabella.
