US 20/26 bridge near Caldwell closed after semi strike
CALDWELL — The U.S. Highways 20 and 26 bridge north of Caldwell is closed after it was struck by a semi carrying heavy machinery while traveling eastbound on Interstate 84. Idaho State Police says a 41-year-old man who holds an Idaho commercial driver’s license was driving a 2008 Freightliner towing a lowboy-style trailer loaded with an excavator when he struck the bridge on Tuesday morning. ISP received a reported call shortly after 9:30 a.m. Bridge inspectors from the Idaho Transportation Department arrived on the scene shortly after the agency was made aware of the incident and closed both eastbound lanes on Interstate 84 near exit 26 to determine if it was safe for motorists to drive underneath the bridge, according to Jill Youmans, ITD’s District 3 public information officer. “We couldn’t even let traffic go underneath the bridge until the original bridge inspectors had been out there to make sure that the bridge could support its own weight,” Youmans said. The bridge strike led to the closing of the US 20/26 overpass and a right lane closure going eastbound on Interstate 84 underneath the bridge for several hours at a time to allow for repairs and removal of loose metal.

ITD to close I-84 and Garrity off-ramp in Nampa on Friday for repaving
NAMPA — The Idaho Transportation Department is advising drivers of an upcoming ramp closure on Interstate 84. The eastbound off-ramp at the Garrity Interchange (Exit 38) will close for repaving from 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, until 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10. Eastbound motorists should use the Franklin Road Interchange (Exit 36) and follow the signed detour. This project is part of ITD’s ongoing priority to maintain Idaho’s existing transportation system, the department said in a news release. Regular maintenance helps pavement reach its full lifespan protecting and extending the life of the roadway, delaying the need for full replacement. All work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled. Text 84CORRIDOR to 1-866-483-8422 for project updates. For maps and details about the project, visit itd.idaho.gov/project/84ramps . Drivers are encouraged to plan extra time when traveling through the area at night and check 511.idaho.gov or the 511 mobile app for the latest updates on restrictions and impacts.

I-84 west to close overnight between Ten Mile, Garrity
NAMPA — Late night and early morning drivers who depend on I-84 west between Ten Mile Road and Garrity Boulevard will have to take a detour Thursday night into Friday morning as crews take another step forward in the extension of State Highway 16. Between Thursday at 10 p.m., and Friday at 5 a.m., the interchanges between I-84 exits 42 and 38 will close so crews can place concrete for the bridge decks on the flyover ramps, the Idaho Transportation Department states. Jill Youmans, ITD’s District 3 public information officer, called the reasoning for the upcoming closure a “substantial operation,” in an interview with the Idaho Press. “Crews will pour concrete in place to form the bridge decks on the flyover ramps,” Youmans said. “Because that work will occur above I-84, the interstate must be closed beneath the operation to protect drivers and construction crews. Safety is our first priority.” Drivers headed west on the interstate will need to divert to Franklin Road in Meridian, until the Garrity Boulevard exit in Nampa, in order to continue motoring west on the interstate.
