Investigation of murdered 72-year-old local woman continues

WEIRTON, W.Va. (WTRF)

We are learning more about a murder in Weirton.

Police responded to a disturbance Wednesday afternoon only to find 72-year-old Linda Dennis dead on the floor.

When they got there, officers entered the home and talked to the homeowner.

Her husband, 71-year-old Mark Dennis, was taken into custody without incident.

Police say he is facing charges of First Degree Murder.

He is in the Northern Regional Jail awaiting arraignment.

“The next step will be his arraignment obviously and at that point it will start in the court system. He will have a preliminary hearing coming up, grand jury, things of that nature and eventually we’ll stand trial.”

Chief Kush says they will be able to release more information as the investigation goes on.

The Weirton Police Department was assisted by the West Virginia State Police, Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, along with the Hancock & Brooke County Drug Task Force and Violent Crimes Unit.
