The Primetime 585 Spotlight Team is the undefeated Webster Schroeder softball team.

They went 3-0 last week against three tough opponents. The Warriors beat Victor 3-2 Fairport 7-4 and Brighton 8-2

Against Victor, Liana DeValder had nine strikeouts and followed with 12 more against Fairport. Schroeder is off to a perfect 11-0 start this season.

“It is a lot of pressure, but it’s easy once you have a good defense behind you,” DeValder said. “They back me up. It makes it easy.”

Bizzie Baglieri got busy with two hits and an RBI to help her team in the win over Victor. Her catcher is also someone very familiar with success.

Senior Sarah Ferruzza has won state championships in three different sports over the last two years: softball, basketball and volleyball. There are no records kept of such things, but it’s very likely she is the only athlete–male or female–ever to do that in Section Five.

She explained why this softball team is so special.

“This team is like family. I grew up with every single one of them. Even (freshman) Kinsley (Keil),” Ferruzza said with a laugh. “It makes it easier to get where I’ve been. It’s not just me. I’m just a small part that I play on this team. And they all lift us up.”

There is a lot of talent on the Schroeder squad. Emma Juliano, Ava West, Leah Murray and Keil have all been very impressive.

Congrats to coach Meaghan Keil and the Warriors!
