Vt. sheriff’s deputy who caused mistrial loses job
BARRE, Vt. (WCAX) - A Windsor County sheriff’s deputy who caused a mistrial in Barre back in March has lost his job. Cpl. Mark Belisle provided security at the Washington County court in February during the sexual assault trial of Kasey Giorgio, who was found guilty. But in March, the judge ruled Belisle made inappropriate comments to a juror, which tainted the trial’s outcome. A mistrial was declared and Belisle was placed on administrative leave.

Grantham doctor indicted on drug and fraud charges

A 48-year-old Grantham doctor has been indicted on charges that he engaged in illegal drug distribution and health care fraud through a network of treatment clinics he owns in northern New England. The charges link him with another former Grantham doctor who pleaded guilty to Medicare fraud last year and is awaiting sentencing.

Lebanon landfill methane capture project back on track
LEBANON, N.H. (WCAX) - A methane capture project at an Upper Valley landfill is back on track after unintended delays. The $6-million project at the Lebanon landfill will include five microturbines that will produce roughly a megawatt of power from the methane gas that is currently being flared off at the facility. A national grid study of the power that will be produced delayed the project, but officials say construction is now scheduled to begin in about a month.

Norwich wheelchair accessible trail now open
NORWICH, Vt. (WCAX) - There is a new wheelchair-accessible nature trail in the Upper Valley. It’s located behind the Marion Cross Elementary School in Norwich and connects to the school’s outdoor classroom. The trail cost about $50,000 and took two years to complete. The school district worked with the alliance to get it done.
