Foltz, Morehead, Stouffer, Treece punch tickets to state
FOSTORIA — At the Division III Fostoria Regional Meet on Friday night, Landen Foltz (discus), Cole Morehead (800 meter dash), Luke Stouffer (shot put) and Maddox Treece (200 meter dash) clinched their tickets to next week’s state meet.
Division I track and field: Liberty Center girls claim regional championship
FOSTORIA — The Liberty Center girls just beat out the girls from Coldwater, edging the Cavaliers 59-58 for the team title at the Division III regional track and field competition that wrapped up on Friday night at Fostoria’s Memorial Stadium. En route to the win, the LC girls had a total of four girls punch tickets to the upcoming state meet in Dayton next week. After Coldwater, Margaretta (51) finished third in the team standings, Woodmore (50.5) was fourth, and Riverdale (47) fifth. Tinora took home the boys regional title with 63 points. Margaretta came in second at 52 points, Wayne Trace (44) finished third, Edgerton (43.5) fourth, and Ottawa Hills (36) fifth. The top four competitors in each event advance to the state meet.
Bowling Green baseball advances to MAC semifinal for first time since 2013
AVON, Ohio — Bowling Green picked up its first Mid-American Conference baseball tournament win since 2015 thanks to a six-run sixth inning, which propelled the Falcons to an eight-run, 12-4 win over Miami at Crushers Stadium on Thursday. It was also the first time the Falcons have made the MAC semifinal since 2013. With the win, the No.1-seeded Falcons (33-18) advance and will face No. 2 Western Michigan, who blanked No. 3 Ball State 8-0 in the nightcap. The game is set for a 6 p.m. start on Friday with the winner advancing to the MAC Championship on Saturday. In the regular season, the Falcons were 1-2 against the Broncos.

Loss to Western Michigan sends Bowling Green to MAC baseball elimination bracket
AVON, Ohio — A three-run first inning set the tone for second-seeded Western Michigan’s 11-0 victory over No. 1 seed Bowling Green State University in the final winners’ bracket game Friday at the Mid-American Conference baseball tournament. With the loss, Bowling Green (33-19) is sent to Saturday’s 12:30 pm. elimination game against third-seeded Ball State. That winner will face Western Michigan at 6 p.m. Saturday in the first of a potential two championship games. A second championship game, should the Bowling Green-Ball State winner defeat Western Michigan, is scheduled for noon Sunday. Western Michigan (31-21) hammered Bowling Green starting pitcher Landon Willeman. CLYDE, Ohio — The third-ranked Anthony Wayne Generals will make their third trip to the Division I state softball semifinals in four years after taking a 9-1 victory over eighth-ranked Northern Lakes League rival Perrysburg in Friday’s regional final at Clyde High School’s Joe Wilson Field. The Generals (29-1), who have posted a 114-12 overall record since 2021, will face second-ranked Pataskala Watkins Memorial (30-1) in a D-I state semifinal next Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Firestone Stadium in Akron. “This is an incredible accomplishment for these seniors, AW coach Ron Myers said. “They're playing their hearts out right now, and we're running on all eight cylinders. We've peaked at the right time of year. “When you get to the final four in the state, though, everybody is great. These seniors are great kids, and they're fun to be around. Southview rallies, stuns Clay in D-I baseball district semifinal
BOWLING GREEN — No. 9 seed Southview baseball stormed back in the late innings and put it away in the eighth to upset top-seeded Clay 12-8 in a Division I district semifinal Wednesday at Bowling Green’s Carter Park. Avery Offenburg led off the top of the eighth with the go-ahead solo home run, and the Cougars added three more runs that inning to secure the win. The favored Eagles led 5-0 after four innings of play, but the Cougars plated two runs in the fifth and four in the sixth to take the lead. Clay responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it 8-6. Down to its final outs, Southview scored twice in the top of the seventh to tie the game, then kept the Eagles off the board in the bottom of the inning to send the game to extras.
BGSU eliminated from MAC baseball tournament with loss to Ball State
AVON, Ohio — A season full of records, wins, and excitement within the Bowling Green State University baseball community came to a tough end on Saturday. Top-seeded BGSU couldn’t maintain its strong start, and No. 3 Ball State did all of its damage offensively in the final six innings as the Cardinals doubled up the Falcons 10-5 in an elimination game in the Mid-American Conference tournament at Crushers Stadium in Avon. Liberty-Benton eliminated in Division III district final baseball loss to Coldwater
ELIDA, Ohio — Coldwater shortstop Baylen Blockberger fielded a grounder off the bat of Liberty-Benton’s Ashton Crawford and fired to first base. The throw pulled Troy Weigel off the bag, but he swung his glove around and tagged Crawford before he got to first. Eagles’ skipper Matt Rader was quick to question the out, one batter into the game, asking to consider the opinions of the rest of the umpire crew. The out stood as called. And, by the end of Saturday’s Division III district final at Ed Sandy Field, Coldwater had defeated Liberty-Benton, 12-3.
Former Spartan Lourawls 'Tum Tum' Nairn Jr. gets promotion at BGSU
A former Spartan has received a notable coaching promotion at a Mid-American Conference school. Lourawls “Tum Tum” Nairn Jr. was promoted to Associate Head Coach at Bowling Green State University on Wednesday. Nairn has been an assistant coach for the Falcons the past two seasons — which Bowling Green has won 20 wins in each year.
Whitmer, St. Francis advance in D-I district baseball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — By the skin of their collective teeth, the Whitmer Panthers survived for a 9-8 victory over Northview on Thursday at Bowling Green's Carter Park to advance to this weekend's Division I district baseball finals. The Panthers (19-7), who avenged two league losses to Northern Lakes League Buckeye Division champion Northview, will face St. Francis de Sales (18-11) in the district final, which will be played Saturday at 7 p.m. or Sunday at 3 p.m. St. Francis has graduation at 3 p.m. on Saturday. The Knights advanced by blanking Anthony Wayne 4-0 in Thursday night's second semifinal at Carter Park. Junior Colin Hennessey (6-1) pitched a three-hit shutout for St. Francis.
