Hancock History: Chateau Sherman
A beachfront castle in Pass Christian on Highway 90 has been a curious landmark for a century which is a residence with an interesting story. The building was built by a retired electrician, James M. Sherman, in the 1920’s. A castle or chateau was designed by Sherman, and he and his assistant, McKinley Bradley, did much of the work. The duo constructed a circular tower and poured cement into molds. The blocks were laid out making the walls that were nine inches thick which survived several hurricanes. They called it “Chateau Sherman.”
